Bartle Hall becomes a collector car haven during Kansas City’s Mecum auction
The temperature may be dropping in Kansas City, but interest in the old car hobby is still high. This week, the eyes of the collector car world will be focused on Kansas City’s own Bartle Hall, as the Mecum Muscle Cars and More season-ending auction takes center stage.
Some 500 collector and specialty vehicles are expected to cross the block, with many of them going to happy new owners. And for people that aren’t in the market to buy, it still makes for one of the best car shows around.
The Mecum auction in Kansas City has a bit of a national focus for a couple of reasons. One, buyers and sellers from all over the United States will be on hand. This means that many of the cars in the arena will be seen for the first time by local enthusiasts.
Additionally, much of the auction will be seen nationally on live TV. The Velocity Channel, which is a Discovery Channel offshoot that is included on many cable systems, will bring much of the bidding action into peoples’ living rooms.
A variety of cars will be offered for sale, including a rare 1953 Buick Skylark, a valuable 1969 Mustang Shelby GT500 convertible, and a customized 1949 Cadillac that has been featured on the cover of a book.
Gates open daily at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, December 1-3, 2011. Live television broadcasts can be seen on the Velocity Channel from 5:00-9:00 p.m. on Thursday, 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, and 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
